Five drops, one date, four cities. November 6 gave hip hop its first N.W.A. compilation, a Jay-Z classic, a Coup cult favorite, a Cassidy comeback and a Bay Area double drop. Here is the day, record by record.
1. N.W.A. — N.W.A. and the Posse (1987)
Before Straight Outta Compton, there was N.W.A. and the Posse — November 6, 1987, Macola Records. A compilation of early Ruthless singles, Eazy-E and the Fila Fresh Crew front and center. The blueprint, pressed before the explosion.

2. Jay-Z — American Gangster (2007)
Jay-Z's tenth album, American Gangster, November 6, 2007 — the film's world, Hov's pen. A #1 debut, a platinum plaque, and a reminder that the best stories come from the corner. "Roc Boys" still sounds like a celebration twenty years on.

3. The Coup — Party Music (2001)
Party Music, The Coup's fourth album, November 6, 2001 — Boots Riley and Pam the Funkstress, politics you can dance to. It missed the charts and won the critics instead. The original Twin Towers cover was pulled after 9/11 and replaced; the music never needed replacing.

4. Cassidy — B.A.R.S. The Barry Adrian Reese Story (2007)
Cassidy put his government name on it: B.A.R.S. The Barry Adrian Reese Story, November 6, 2007. Third album, #2 on the Top Rap Albums chart, "My Drink n My 2 Step" with Swizz Beatz leading the way. The punchlines were still sharp — Philly knew.

5. E-40 & Too $hort — History: Mob Music / History: Function Music (2012)
E-40 and Too $hort didn't drop one album on November 6, 2012 — they dropped two. History: Mob Music and History: Function Music, a double statement from two Bay Area originals, peaking at No. 7 and No. 6 on the Top Rap Albums chart. Longevity, in stereo.
